1. QB stability: Let’s put aside all the whispers and figure it’s a true toss-up between Tim Tebow and John Brantley starting at quarterback. Certainly, Florida’s offense changes with the Heisman-winner out. But it doesn’t necessarily drop off. The designed quarterback runs will decrease in frequency, and Brantley will need to prove himself in the option game. Then again, Brantley’s strong arm might improve UF’s passing attack, especially down the field. If Tebow’s healthy, it’s a big boost for the Gators. But Brantley on the field doesn’t mean doomsday for Florida.

2. Urban Meyer: Among the coolest things about college football this decade is the emergence of a wave of great coaches. From Meyer to Pete Carroll to a slew of guys in the South and Midwest, these middle-aged men have changed the game for the 20-somethings who play it. The best of the bunch? It comes down Carroll and Meyer, and it’s tough to go against Urban. Even in a two-week stretch like this—quarterback hurt, players dealing with the pressure of being No. 1, season’s toughest game around the corner—Meyer’s the guy you want in charge.
