Three Reasons Penn State Will Win
1. Daryll Clark: Perhaps no player north of Tim Tebow took a loss harder last year than Clark dealt with that windy afternoon in Iowa City. Plenty of teammates shared blame for the 24-23 loss, but Clark bore, and still bears, the whole deal himself. “There’s nothing anyone can say that doesn’t make me believe it wasn’t my fault,” he said this week on a teleconference. Clark completed 9-of-23 passes for 86 yards, including an interception and fumble. Don’t bank on a repeat Saturday in Beaver Stadium.
2. White at night: Loud. Imposing. Often copied, never matched. These are the tamest descriptions of the annual Penn State white out, and they add up to making the place one of the most fun and daunting in college football. Veterans of the college football circuit say the student section ranks among the nation’s best. But dressing a capacity crowd in the same color, and giving them a strong team to cheer, makes this PSU night-game experience as cool as anything in sports. “How many things do you do,” coach Joe Paterno said at a news conference this week, “where you’re involved with 110,000 people all on the same page.” This is the third official white out game, according to PSU’s game notes, and the Lions are 2-0 so far.
