So why do no Legends Poll voters have Iowa’s 8-0 Hawkeyes in their top five? Why don’t any of the 17 coaching icons consider Kirk Ferentz’s history-making team a threat to play for the national championship?
Is Iowa getting enough respect from Legends Poll voters?
“There’s not much overall speed or athleticism there,” said former Texas A&M coach R.C. Slocum, who had Iowa No. 9 on his ballot Sunday. “They remind me of Ohio State from 2002—they’re winning ugly,” said ex-Ohio State coach John Cooper, who put the Hawkeyes eighth.
The Hawkeyes made the biggest jump in this week’s Legends top 10—from No. 9 to 7 after their latest great escape, at Michigan State. …
