They’re No. 1 in the Big Ten, off to their best start ever and owners of the second-longest winning streak in Division I-A, behind only Florida.

So why do no Legends Poll voters have Iowa’s 8-0 Hawkeyes in their top five? Why don’t any of the 17 coaching icons consider Kirk Ferentz’s history-making team a threat to play for the national championship?

“There’s not much overall speed or athleticism there,” said former Texas A&M coach R.C. Slocum, who had Iowa No. 9 on his ballot Sunday. “They remind me of Ohio State from 2002—they’re winning ugly,” said ex-Ohio State coach John Cooper, who put the Hawkeyes eighth.
