Another wild weekend brought a shakeup Sunday in the second Legends Poll of the fall. Boise State cracked the top five, Cal tumbled 18 spots, Bama leapfrogged the Longhorns and 17 of the game’s greatest coaches wondered what was in store next. One month in, 18 of Sporting News’ preseason Top 25 teams already have at least one loss.
“Parity is spreading,” former Indiana coach Bill Mallory said.
“Parity that the average fan doesn’t see,” former Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry added.
Here’s what else the Legends were talking about Sunday:
Florida vs. Alabama. The Gators, a unanimous No. 1 in the first poll, lost some of their support a day after their 41-7 rout of Kentucky. Frank Broyles, John Cooper, Terry Donahue, Pat Dye, John Ralston and R.C. Slocum all cast a No. 1 vote for the Tide, 35-7 winners over Arkansas.
