Go on or be gone: Week 16 playoff implications

The postseason doesn’t begin officially for two weeks, but several teams still fighting for berths or one of the top two seeds in each conference face games with playoff implications this weekend.

Houston (7-7) at Miami (7-7)

What’s at stake: The winner will go into the final week of the regular season with its playoff hopes still alive. The loser will be playing strictly for pride.

What to expect: This will be a difficult test for the Texans, who have won their last four games against Miami but have been on a roller coaster ride all season. The Dolphins are playing at home, and quarterback Chad Henne and running back Ricky Williams have played effectively.

“If we don’t win, (playoff talk) doesn’t matter,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said, “so the bottom line is we’re in an elimination game.”

Baltimore (8-6) at Pittsburgh (7-7)

What’s at stake: Both of these AFC North rivals still are in the playoff picture, although the image of the defending Super Bowl champion Steelers is fuzzy.

What to expect: A close battle that isn’t decided until late. These teams have met four times since the start of the 2008 season; two of the games went to overtime and a third wasn’t decided until the final 43 seconds.
