Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was in New York on Tuesday as one of 16 national scholar-athlete finalists chosen by the National Football Foundation. Despite leading the unbeaten Longhorns to a berth in the national championship game and being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, McCoy told Sporting News’ Bill Eichenberger and other reporters that this season was not without its difficulties.

Q: Was this season everything you thought it would be when you decided to come back for your senior year?

Colt McCoy: The first part of the season, I was a little bit down. I wasn’t having as much fun as I should have. Maybe I let the pressure and expectations get to me. You come back for your senior year and you expect to play perfect. …
