A former Wisconsin man who ran a tavern in Lakeland, Fla., was beaten to death after a dispute with a customer as they watched Saturday’s game.
Richard Oaks, who ran the Par 33 Lounge, got into an argument during the game with his friend and neighbor, Alan Pierce. Oaks hit Pierce over the head with a beer bottle.
While at the hospital getting 13 stitches to close a head wound, Pierce called his 17-year-old daughter at home and told her what had happened.
According to police, the girl and four friends — two 17-year-old boys, a 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man — went to Oaks’ home to exact revenge. They are accused of breaking in and beating Oaks to death.
Oaks was a Packers fan and painted the bar’s exterior in green and gold, according to the Tampa Tribune.
“He was wearing his Packer jersey” on Saturday, Oaks’ wife, Stephanie, told the Tampa newspaper

yea people are stupid… ’nuff said. I think this story has more to do with angry drunk people and stupid kids than it has anything to do with sports.

Sounds about par for the course

wow……I mean, it’s fine to cheer for your team, but this is ridiculous.

Well what was the FIGHT over? I mean were they drunk as well? Seriously though if all they were fighting about was because he was a Packers fan then this person needs committed to a mental institution. No need to go that far because you like a different team. I never beat the crap out of Browns fans just because they exist. Honestly I don’t care what team someone likes. I may talk trash with them in fun, but come on getting in an actual fight over that and going to the point of breaking in and beating someone to death. Although were they originally planning to beat him to death. I mean come on they went to get back at him for putting a gash in the one’s father’s head. When you need 13 stitches that is a pretty decent size gash.

Its a tragic story, and there is no excuse for this behavior.

Those and other like them have nothing else in their life. They should be on death row . I have a friend who is a Notre Dame fan you can not joke with him at ALL when they lose.
Needless to say we don’t talk anymore. Its a game ,if your team wins or loses it does not effect your life (unless you bet on them)(in cases like that then you deserve whatever you get)

Unfortunately, some people (more than we would like to know) take it to that crazy level … it is not only in sports, but in many life occurances including (and a big one)religion …
But very troubling in sports … it is a game .. should have no haters (and we see that way too much) .. can’t say that I “hate” any team in any sports … even as a Red Sox fan, I don’t hate the Yankees, but I do like when my team wins the game… don’t know where it will stop … maybe when we look around and found that we have reached the duplication of the Roman Empire and see what happened there … oh well
Looking forward to seeing some good football coming this w/e and hoping for the Pats to continue their solid football playing

That’s almost as bad as the two brothers from South Carolina who got into a gunfight after this years South Carolina/Clemson game. The brother who was a South Carolina fan wound up killing his brother who was a Clemson fan.

Anyone that gets that upset over sports needs more psychological help than is available. They either need to be banished to Siberia or given a high velocity lead injection. It is time for people to grow up.

The idiots in the bar went too far, obviously. You can tease others over a sports team but if someone is taking things too seriously, you should back off. Plus, whatever the guy does with his bar is his choice, you don’t like it? Then don’t go there. Or have fun with it and wear a Bears jersey when you go. LOL
As to the kids, well, they were immature about things and will now pay the price for the rest of their lives with at least the stain of what they did on their conscious. They should all get a long prison sentence.
